    Chapter 1
A cool summer breeze rolled in, on the planes of Zin country. This summer was colder than usual, causing the demon beasts to hibernate longer. In a small valley, near the Ursine river resided a place called Lotus City. This city had stood the tests of time, being here long before the Mo, Han and Zin dynasties were ever established. A little city, which had been quietly residing for over a hundred millennia, not involving itself in the outside world. It’s not that nobody would ever leave the city, it’s just that they would never return. This is because of one rule, an unspoken but heavily enforced rule, whoever leaves can never come back. These were the words of the old city lord. A kindly man, who would rarely appear.

In the fiftieth year in the 3rd era, a child was born. He was born to the Kewang Clan. He was the only child of the clan’s second mistress that died in childbirth. As such the clan leader, Kewang Hai, treats him as dearly as one of his own sons, and although he is a bastard, he allowed him to take the family name. This child was called Kewang Tian. Although he was showered with love by his uncle, an existence, that is only second to the city lord, in all of Lotus City. Therefore, ensuring that he would never suffer the humiliation of being bullied by his fellow clan mates. But unfortunately, these ideas are often for naught. In fact, he is often shamed by his fellow clan mates and is shamed as the bastard of some strange man and the second mistress. He who is not of pure blood is disgusting in the Kewang Clan, of course, nobody would admit this in front of his uncle Kewang Hai…

All Kewang Tian ever wanted was to leave the Kewang Clan. This was the place of his humiliation, nobody treated him with any respect, apart from his Uncle-Patriarch (Kewang Hai) and second uncle-grand elder, Kewang Shui. Yet that wasn’t enough for Kewang Tian, he wants to explore the outside world. He wants to go out and find his father, who abandoned him to this fate. Kewang Tian has heard there are powerful immortals in the outside world, called cultivators. They channel something called Qi in their body, to make themselves those who would defy the heavens. As far as Kewang Tian knew there were several stages of cultivation… first of all, you had to condense the Qi, this, of course, is called the Qi condensation realm. After this, there’s the Body Construction Realm, this is where you infuse Qi into your bones there are 9 stages in both these realms. After this is the sea realm, the sea realm is where you draw in untold amounts of Qi into your body, allowing you to have a sea of it, he had heard that at the apex of cultivation one could be considered a true divinity. Many of the elders dear not too conservatively mention the name of these beings as they truly fear the repercussions, and only heavens chosen could tread upon the path to reach these heights, although this had always confused Kewang Tian. He thought the very act of cultivation is going against the heavens, so, therefore, how can they be heavens chosen, if anything their heavens abandoned, and those that are at the apex should be known as the ultimate enemy of heaven. They could change the fate of empires, and men alike, this is why the heavens hated cultivators. “Hmm, all those that defy the will of the heavens are truly heinous people… but, if it looks like I’ll have to take the path of the defiant, I will be a heretic…”, this was the decision that Kewang came to…

3/7/59/3, (third day, of the seventh month, of the 59th year, of the 3rd era D/T, will now be addressed in this manner).

Today was the day of the Kewang Clans awakening ceremony, an event where you have your martial spirit and body assessed. Although Kewang was only 9 he still wanted to watch it, as you must be 11 to participate today all eyes were on his older cousin Yun Kewang. Yun Kewang was the patriarch’s youngest son, and one of his only friends in the entire Clan. His older brother all had talent, which could be said to be in the upper echelons of the entire Lotus City. Two of them possessed Level 7 Martial Spirits, the War Giant is his third brothers, with the 7 Flame Lion as his second brothers, which means that they will have no trouble cultivating in the future and will get to the great sea realm with relative ease! Finally, his eldest brother even possessed a Great Spirit! He had a level 9 Earth Dragon! A formidable existence indeed! This is one of the best Martial Spirits the Clan had ever seen. It was even stronger than the Patriarchs and almost as high as the old founder of lotus city who was rumored to have a level 10 Martial Spirit! So, as you can imagine, there was a great pressure hanging over Kewang Yun’s head. He is at least expected to have a level 6 Spirit, many in the clan suspected that he could even have up to a level 9 Spirit like his eldest brother!

In the clan hall, which had a ceiling taller than 33 feet, there was a grand stage, with a podium in the center. On the podium was a rear crystal that all the Clans have, an awakening crystal. It was as pale as milk and was jagged all around, it looked like something a miner would salivate over, this special object is what shows your martial spirit before Qi Condensing realm.

It was already nine incense sticks in, by the time it was Cousin Yun’s turn to go next. It had been a good showing this year, there had been a wide variety of martial spirits awakening, and someone even woke a pure yang martial spirit, which was a huge surprise, if he cultivated well in the flame arts, his inner fire could allow him to become a great alchemist. This was because pure yang flames could burn far hotter than its competitors, and therefore make a far purer pill. The boy who awoke the pure yang spirit was called Kewang Jin! He could be said to have a bright future ahead of him and would one day become a pillar of the Kewang Clan in lotus city.

There had also been a young maiden of the called Kewang Feng. Kewang Tian always hated her, she was obnoxious beyond belief, just because she was the daughter of the elder of the Kewang Clan, and the daughter of the city lord. In Kewang Tian’s eyes she was just a prized horse up for the show, yet today she had proven her worth. “That Bitch, she awakened a level 8 Martial Spirit! The ice bird!” thought Kewang Tian at the time of its awakening, this was another tremendous gain for the Kewang Clan, as the ice was a rare element to possess, and those with it often had a heightened combat ability, being able to fight those one stage higher than them!

Finally, it was Kewang Yun’s turn! “He must get a level 8 or higher spirit, otherwise we will both be bullied to the end of our days!” Kewang Tian thought. Breathing heavily, Kewang Tian watched him take one step at a time to the top of the podium. He took a heavy breath, almost turning purple, as the footsteps, were mirroring the hammering on his chest, “May the heavens hate you!” Kewang Tian thought silently in his head. As he got to the top of the stage and put his hand on the podium the hall that was full of discussion went dead silent. As Kewang Yun approached the crystal it was possible to see the sweat pouring from his brow, and his chest was visibly pounding. “The results of this will determine the rest of lives”, Kewang Tian thought.

    Chapter 2: Spirit Awakening

As Kewang Yun touched the crystal there was a great low rumbling that went into the rest of crowd’s ears. Unlike the others, the crystal instantly and powerfully reacted, this was like his eldest brother’s reaction, which none today had achieved! It was more though, it caused the air to visibly ripple, and the ground quake. As the rumbling that sounded like it was a fight against the heavens continued there was a bright golden light that seeped from the crystal.

In the crowd, that was in shock and awe there was a man. This man was in a dark cloak and seemed to not surprised at all, but there was a tiny smirk on his lips. “After all this time, the city of hidden dragons will give birth to another mega genius.” After he finished he transformed into a blur, and all of a sudden disappeared as if he was never there. Little did the people of Lotus City know, that this was going to be the pivotal moment in the history of their ‘grand city’.

As the bright golden light continued to seep, there was a raging figure in it. It looked like a monstrosity! “What is that!” Someone shouted. “I don’t know, it looks evil!” The patriarch had a look of pride on his face. It was clear what he was thinking, “This is my son, he has even more natural talent than his eldest brother!” Instantly, most of the clan made a mental note not to anger the Young Master Yun, because he was obviously going to be a great existence in the future.

Looking up at Kewang Yun with a bright face Kewang Tian’s face lit up. That must be at least a level 11 Martial Spirit! A level 11 Martial Spirit, what kind of existence was that? Only 1 in a thousand people could awaken a martial spirit, and the odds got increasingly greater for each stage increasing by x5, so the odds of awakening this kind of martial spirit are 1 over 40 billion! Those immortal sects in the outside world would kill to get this kind of disciple even the upper echelons, that truly transcend! He could even marry the daughter of some powerful sect master, as selective breeding is often part of the process of passing on higher grade martial spirits to your descendants, and increases the likelihood of your children having a higher grade spirit. So for example, if two people with level 7 martial spirits, had a child, it wouldn’t be possible for that Childs martial spirit to be under a level 6 martial spirit, and it would be likely that it would be a level 7 or higher! This always troubled Kewang Tian, as he knew that his mother’s martial spirit wasn’t high, and he didn’t even know his father, so it couldn’t be determined what level his martial spirit would be. He was always happy with the thought of it being over a level 4, as long as it had an okay attribute!

As Kewang Tian was thinking this over with a worried and nervous face turned to shock, as the awakening crystal started to send out pulses of bright light, blinding to each and everyone in the hall. The Waves started to shake the cities very foundations, and then suddenly BANG! The crystal shattered!

The onlookers had both looks of amazement and horror! First, what power was required to break this kind of crystal! It was granted to the Kewang Clan back when the Clan was first established, handed down by the ancestors! Secondly, this was an artifact, that was extremely rear handed down by a Clans ancestor, and he destroyed it! The Kewang Clan would have to sell most of their estates in the city to buy another one from somewhere else, and that was if they were willing to sell, these stones were precious to each and every Clan. For heaven’s sake, wars have been fought to obtain awakening crystals if there of high enough quality! But today this happened!

The members of the clan didn’t know whether to laugh or to cry. The Grand Elder’s and Patriarchs faces were turning ashen, and pink with happiness at the same time.

“Cough, Cough. The 1379th annual shall be ended here! It has been a fine showing; I hope you a become pillars Kewang Clan in the future, and shine brighter than the over clans.” The voice of the Patriarch resounded through the hall, with a heart full of pride.

As everyone started to leave the hall, there were people clamoring to congratulate the worthy victor, as they were shower Kewang Yun with glory and praise, he was just trying to squeeze through the crowd to get back to his hut!

After about three hours of interrogation, fawning and swooning from the girls of the Clan and endless marriage proposals, he was finally able to free himself from the hoard of people that swarmed him.

When he got back to his hut Kewang Tian was waiting there for him. “The valid victor has finally arrived then.” Kewang Tian said with a great big grin, that made him look silly. Kewang Yun retorted, “Please, your only happy that Kewang Feng isn’t going to bully you!”

Kewang Tian’s face went bright red as he scratched his nose. “Well, has your farther congratulated you yet?” he asked in an inquiring voice.

“No, but I’m afraid I’m going to be in a beating of a lifetime. That awakening crystal was a relic of the clan, yet I broke it! I’ll be lucky if they don’t kick me out of the clan.” Kewang Yun said with an ashen face.

“You don’t have to worry about it.” Kewang Tian smirked. “Your father is probably planning on one of the other three Clans, or maybe even the city lord to give you a new one as a congratulatory gift, or tribute.” Kewang Tian patted him on the shoulder and gave a sigh, “You better not let that bitch Kewang Feng, bully me from now on. I tell you she has it out for me. She hit me over the head, with the hilt of a sword the other day. Before running away.” Kewang Tian pointed to a lump under his silvery hair, with a sad face, that slightly resembled a grumpy cat.

“You may be smart, but you’re not a people person are you…” After saying this he flicked the lump on his head, causing him to flinch. He then opened his door chuckling and slammed it in Kewang Tian's face.

Holding his head, and rubbing is, Kewang Tian walked back to his room, muttering “No sympathy”, and cursing at him on the way back to his small little apartments in the hut.

    Chapter 3: Demonic Way Sect

A blur shot across, all the way through Lotus city, out of Zin country, and kept going, for thousands upon thousands of miles, all that were near this figure which was going inconceivably fast were astonished. Some were even knocked back by the shockwaves he was sent off, even some of the mortals were killed! He ran all the way through Zin Country, to the bordering Azure Sky Empire, through the Azure Sky Empire, all through the whispering wood, finally he arrived at the lands of the chosen, the greater heavenly way, or what people call the lands of the heavenly way.

After entering the lands of the heavenly way, he chose to go even deep, until he finally arrived at a place where the sky was scorched, there was lightning cascading from the skies, ripping the land asunder, there were abysses as far as the eye can see. In there was a large onyx-like castle in the middle of the land, it was huge, and couldn’t even be called a castle. It was larger than ten Lotus Cities.

Outside the castle prowled great beasts, demon beasts. There were all kinds, but all are vicious, and the smarter ones are the real problem though. Once they reached a certain level of cultivation they can transform into humans, and when that’s done, they will run amok in society, causing all types of trouble, but that won’t happen here. If a beast gets to gutsy here, they’ll eliminate the threat. The only reason they keep them here is to use as a cultivation resource.

As the man in a cloak rushed pass all the beasts, they cowered, they obviously recognized this man, he was Ji Peng. He was in possession of the Roc spirit, which was another great spirit. Full of sweat, he stopped at the gates of the great castle. And knocked so that the door thundered. Afterward, a portal opened, taking him straight to the center of the fortress.

He reappeared in a huge sanctum, it was cold, damp, and dark. The roaring of flame torches could be heard, as they danced in the shadows. As he quickly walked, the sounds of his steps echoed, disturbing the surreal silence, of the empty place.

He then came to a huge stone door, which was illuminated, with great opalescent gemstones, encrusting the door. These gemstones formed a runic symbol. It was of a great horned beast, with a crown of cracked bone upon its head. It was an ancient demon of the way.

As Ji Peng laid eyes on this great beast it made him shiver. Although it was his sect’s namesake, it still filled him with fear.

As he shook, the door started to rumble, and grind, as it slowly descended to the floor, scattering dust everywhere. “Enter.” An old hollow voice called out.

As he entered the room, Ji Peng could barely take the stench. With all his willpower, he still found it hard not to vomit. The room was decorated, with corpses, some of which were rotting, and others already faded into dust. A hundred, a thousand, maybe more. The corpses didn’t discriminate either, men, women… and children.

Albeit for only a few seconds, Ji Peng realized he was staring. He dropped down on his hands and knees, “Forgive me sect master.” He said in a soft voice, which you would address a child or monster.

The old being snorted. “Why have you disturbed my meditation, Apprentice Ji. You may be a core disciple, but you…” the old one smirked, “you know what happened to the last person to disturb me without need.” An old withered finger pointed at a corpse in the corner, wearing the same badge as Ji Peng.

Seeing this Ji Peng gulped, while sweat poured down his face. The corpse was one of his senior brothers, who had the bright idea of trying to question the sect master, he thought he was important because his father was an elder. Well, neither father or son reside in this place anymore, well not entirely. There souls and essence consumed, and body left to rot.

“Sect master. This really is an important matter, I swear.” Ji Peng said urgently.

“Then what is this important matter.” The old one said, whilst tapping long decrepit fingernails on the side of the throne.

“There’s a boy sect master, well actually there’s a lot of very talented people that I’ve found.”

“Oh, really how talented?” the olds one eye suddenly opened, and there the red pupils dilated.

“Sir there’s, there’s, one girl, with the ice phoenix –”

The old one suddenly stood up, “An ice phoenix, you say. Well. Not bad, not bad at all… I’ve decided not to kill you, Apprentice Ji. An ice phoenix is a heaven level spirit, a level eight one at that.” The owner of the archaic voice said as it paced around the room. “Congratulations, you get to continue, your meaningless existence another day.” The old one chuckled to itself.

Hearing this Ji Peng took a deep breath, and his face regained some of the colour which had been ashen. “There are also some others, which are quite good.” Ji Peng said in a bolder voice.

“Oh, go on.” the voice said in a cold voice.

“There was also someone with a… pure yang spirit.” Ji Peng almost licked his lips after saying this, “I’m bound for a reward from the sect if they find these people!” Ji Peng was ecstatic just thinking about the possibility. Perhaps he could finally get what he’s always wanted, his mouth started to slightly salivate just at the thought of it.

“What form was the pure yang spirit in?” The old voice asked hurriedly, wanting to get all the information form such a prospect.

“Sorry, there wasn’t any form sect master.” Ji Peng readily replied.

“A formless Yang spirit, a pure one at that… very good, probably fire or a battle spirit, in terms of cultivation, he can be used in both dual cultivation, or the Dao of flame… also, it would make an excellent alchemist.” The old one said with a very satisfied look.

“Two people from one place, intriguing, very intriguing.” The sect master scratched the old chin.

“Tell me, Little Peng, why have you not brought these young genii’ back?” The sect master looked at him with sharp eyes, that pierced the soul, and gave a wicked grin.

“Apologies Sect Master!” Ji Peng quickly pleaded.

    “But… but”

“But what?” The old one yelled, standing over the pathetic man ready to end his meaningless existence at any moment. “Tell me, what does a petty Roc have in comparison to an Ice Phoenix Little Peng?” yelled the sect master who was furious.

As blood poured out of Ji Peng’s ears and held back his sobbing, he slowly whispered, “L Lo – Lotus City, Sect Master!” As he said this all the pressure was instantly released, and the sect mater was again, sitting upon a throne of bones.

“Lotus City…” The sect master chuckled, in a nervous manner.

“That’s a city that has been sleeping for a long time… Say, Little Peng, do you know who Lotus City was founded by?” The old voice slithered out like a curious serpent.

“I, I’ve only heard rumors, oh great one!” Ji Peng said as he’s once frantic breathing stated to steady.

“Well, you wouldn’t have entered there if you knew the truth.” The old voice said. “Anyway, you have disappointed me. You will now serve penance, stand watch, outside Lotus City for the next Century, and don’t get caught. Now leave” The old decaying hand waved him off.

“Oh, lord. 100 years! my cultivation will fall behind senior brothers then…”

    Chapter 4: Namesakes

Hearing this Ji Peng went into panic mode. 100 years of cultivation was a long time, especially in the Demonic Way Sect!

If he fell behind his senior brothers, he would be left in the dust, and no longer have a place as one of the core disciples in the sect!

    “WAIT!” Ji Peng suddenly shouted.

“Hmm.” The Sect Master looked at him, with a raised eyebrow, wondering what brought about his defiance. “Speak now, or forever hold your peace… in the grave.”

Hearing this Ji Peng almost vomited blood.

“Great one.” Ji Peng tried to flatter her. “There’s one there with our… our…”

“Our what!?” The sect master impatiently shouted.

“Our… Namesake.” As the words left his lips the room went visibly cold.

The ancient one’s first was clasped so tight on the throne of bones that it began to vibrate; a deadly pressure came down upon everything in the room.

    BANG!

    All the rooms bones shattered.

The throne which the ancient one was sitting had crumbled into dust. “Ah! Damn! Damn! Heavens Damn it!” the old decrepit being was livid.

“Do you know why we can’t go to Lotus City? It’s because of its namesake! The Lord Lotus. Do you know who Lord Lotus is?” The Sect Master ruthlessly questioned.

    “Who is Lo..”

“Lord Lotus, he’s a dangerous man. He’s the ex-city lord. And junior patriarch of the Lotus Sect. Do you know what kind of existence the Lotus Sect is in the divine realm? It’s a place equivalent to our main branch.” After saying this a look of longing and remorse glinted in the ancient one’s eyes.

‘GUP’ sounded loudly from Ji Peng’s throat.

“The only person to dare set foot in Lotus City, in the past 5000 years was a being of unobtainable power.” The Sect Leader Snorted.

Hearing this Ji Peng looked up with a curiosity.

“Oh, you’re wondering who he was? Well, even I’m not sure of that, all I know is that when he arrived there, a great commotion took place outside Lotus City, where even the Supreme Ancestor, of the Lotus Sect, was called out.”

As these words reached his ears, he was astonished. What kind of existence was that! The Supreme Ancestors of the Divine Realm were rumored to be the strongest under the heavens!

“Wh... what happened then?” Ji Peng couldn’t resist asking.

The old ancestor chuckled. “The Supreme Ancestor and the mysterious man battled it out, tooth-and-nail.” There was a completely satisfied grin on the old one’s face. “The Supreme Ancestor was crippled and taken. She died a while after.”

A cold sweat was leaking out of Ji Peng. “What kind of existence could just get away with such a crime?”

Looking at him the Ancient laughed. “I can tell by the look on your face, you’re wondering which kind of person could do such a thing. Well, there’s a rumor about this. It was said that he transformed into, a beast and flew off after their business was done.”

“Sect Master, he transformed into a beast, what kind could be so powerful. A Dragon, Vermilion bird, A Tiger of the Western Wind?” Ji Peng frantically questioned.

“Nothing so fanciful, I assure you. It was a heavenly devouring beast!”

Ji Peng’s face went as pale as snow. “I heard that the devouring beasts are harbingers of the end times. And they aim to devour all Qi in the Universe.” He started to shiver.

“Enough.” Said the Ancestor sharply. “I will get into contact with the main sect and ask their advice in this matter. We will need to abduct them if what you say is true. And we’ll have to it swiftly, so we’ll need their backup. You have earnt a reward. I’ll grant you an earth ranked cultivation technique.”

Hearing this Ji Peng’s face lit up, an earth ranked skill is incredibly rear. It could possibly help him to break through. The only problem was that it takes a long time to learn. Yet, he didn’t pay any of this to mind, and gratefully accepted, with a gleaming face.

The old Sect Master threw a scroll at him then waved him off.

As he left the room there was a long feminine sigh. “How long has it been, I just want to go home, and stop keeping up this facade, and perhaps this will be my opportunity to do so.” The ancestor’s fist clenched with a great smile. Waving the old decrepit hand, causing a portal, which gleamed with orange and purple, to open, so that she could walk through.

As the old one walked through, there was a confident and bold voice, “so you have returned my love, you haven’t paid penance yet. Why have you come?”

He then turned into a trace of light, appearing before the old one. He touched the wrinkled forehead, causing the wrinkled skin to fall off, and a beautiful face to appear. It was a woman, with scarlet hair, with a streak of white in. She had a pretty face, which had high cheekbones, with dimples, as she smiled, showing off her pretty pink lips.

The middle-aged man then hugged, and slowly went to kiss her. This went on for a moment, she then buried her head in his chest, as tears strolled down her eyes.

She then let out a soft and gentle voice, “I believe that I should be able to return soon my love.” Her brown eyes looked sparkled like those of a puppy and hugged the man even tighter.

    Chapter 5: Conspiracies

Lotus City Nang Clan’s main hall. There was a large procession of people, all the elders of the Clan were there, many of them had a look of trouble on their face, whilst others had sweat upon their brows. If someone were to walk in, they could see that that at the top of the hall sat a man and two women. This was naturally the Matriarch and the two grand elders of the Clan.

As several of them were in heated discussion, the old lady had a staunch look on her face. The look was one of confusion and a little desperation. In recent months there had been several discussions all like this that ended without confirmation of a plan, and that plan, of course, was how to handle the situation of this so-called game-changing martial spirit, that had awoken by some boy, which had shaken Lotus City so.

There were three ruling families in Lotus City, excluding the city Lord of course. They were the Kewang, Nang, and Zhou Clans. The Lord of Lotus City was, of course, a member of the illustrious Ren Clan. Usually, things in the city were quite harmonious, and there wasn’t much trouble, as the clans lived on opposite sides of the city, with the Ren Clan being at the center, to keep the piece.

The frown that crowned the Matriarch had been there for over a month now, and there were worries of a large power shift in the city, considering how things were looking, things might just end up going sideways.

The Nang and Zhou Clans weren’t ever that strong, and only had two experts at the sea realm each, whereas the Kewang had seven. The Ren Clan was deep and ancient, and rumor has it that they have a NascentRealm, which could easily level the city. The scary thing is that people extend their lifespans once their realm increases and people at the NascentRealm could live for hundreds of years, as the average lifespan for mortals was only around forty. This meant Clans with high cultivation, and suddenly disappearing can be very suspicious. When this happens, it is best not to act rashly, as many sleeping dragons lie in the world.

As people kept muttering and arguing unruly on what to do the Matriarch was finally at the end of her wits. “Enough of this!” As her cold words resounded throughout the room, it became eerily cold. “Seeing as nobody has any worthwhile ideas, in this so-called great ancient Clan, I’ve finally come up with a solution.” The Woman announced with the elegance and pride of a Silver Swann.

Everyone in the room looked up to the room with gleaming eyes, and whispering could be heard in the crowd. ‘That’s our Matriarch, she always has a solution’. ‘Surely the Matriarch’s solution will be wiser than any of ours!’ another one whispered.

“It’s very simple. There’s one surefire way to turn this all into our favor, that is why I’m going to need everyone in this room, to either say an oath, by the heavens, to not say anything or leave the room now.” As the words left her mouth the whole room went silent.

‘Swear an oath by the heavens’. A few people gulped down. If one were to break an oath of that magnitude, they would suffer a heavenly tribulation! A few of the older ones in the hall started to sweat as they have encountered this famous retribution before, and how it can instantly disintegrate Sea Realm experts!

The old woman chuckled seeing the crowd, panicking, yet no one was leaving “good, nobody will leak the information I’m about to divulge”. The matriarch stood up straight, raised her head to the heavens, “Do those, in this room vow to never repeat what they have heard and will hear in this room today, and if they do so, they will be punished, by heavenly tribulation.” As she ended the speech there wasn’t any gap, all that could be heard was a resounding, “AYE”, shout out. After which the thunder could be heard overhead, signifying the oaths which had been taken, and witnessed by the heavens.

“Good. So, I will divulge, the course of action the Clan will take.” The Matriarch chuckled with the deviousness this plan was going to need, if they were to successfully pull it off, “I believe that it is time to break the unspoken rules of Lotus City…”

    Chapter 6: Dreams

A lone boy was walking down the corridor a dark, crimson-colored hallway. This was no normal hallway though, the Crimson was blood, and there were shadows dancing on the walls. Serpents and tusked men, with great fiery violet eyes, that looked as if they wanted to devour the world. As the many shadows danced, they looked at the young boy with interest and guided him.

The boy followed the shadows down the hall, which was so large, the ceiling was shrouded by dark clouds, that had streaks of golden sunlight trying to pierce out from them. As the boy walked further and further down the hall, he finally came to the end.

At the end there was a grand stage, made of ebony jade, which seemed fit for an emperor, to place his throne upon. The stage radiated, a heat that touched the soul, yet as the boy as the boy reached out his hand it was cool to the touch. It felt like the great jade stage was trying to fight itself, the heat battling the cold, it made the boy feel…sad.

As the boy walked up the steps to the stage, he suddenly felt everything go round and round as if he were suddenly extremely dizzy, he felt like he was going to vomit. He covered his eyes, until he felt a bit better, slowly the feeling of nausea faded away, and he slowly uncovered his eyes and his jaw dropped.

He wasn’t in the hall anymore, he was still standing on the platform, but everything around him had vanished. The shadows and pools of blood had vanished. Around him were stars, countless amounts of them, stretching out to infinity, looking up in wanderlust, he suddenly felt somethings gaze upon him. It was like a fire that ignited his soul and made his blood boil, a horrible yet strangely satisfying feeling.

The boy slowly turned around, and then he saw it, something that he would never forget, a pair of eyes. These eyes were just like the eyes of the beasts, that he had seen on the walls of that hall. He felt his skin tingling, yet unlike the eyes of those demonic creatures, these were kind and gentle, caring one could say. But whilst they looked far gentler they also had an aura of pride, which was seemingly unwilling to notice him.

The boy reached out to those eyes, and then suddenly he started falling as if something was pulling him away, as he looked down, the jade stage had disappeared, and he was being drawn further and further away from those so similar eyes.

The rate at which he was being taken away was inconceivable to him, as he traveled, the stars seemed to change shape, as he would be taken by thousands in second, all of them turning into streaks of light in his eyes.

The boy started to shout, as the speed scared him, he was only small, yet he was being put through this horrifying experience. Then everything faded into darkness.

    “Ahhh!”

A loud scream was let out, that everyone in the courtyard of the Kewang Clan could hear. The screaming had been going on for a few hours now, and two middle-aged men and four old ones were crowded around a bedside, of a young boy. They had done all they could to wake him, but it had been all for naught. Naturally, this was the Grand Elder and Patriarch, the old men were all esteemed doctors from Lotus City. Kewang Hai and Kewang Shui, had been called in the early hours of the morning by Kewang Yun. Yun had come in the early hours of the morning as he always had to meet up with Kewang Tian, to talk and get something to eat, yet he hadn’t shown up.

Seeing this, he had thought Kewang Tian had overslept, so he went to his hut to wake him, but when he arrived he heard screaming inside. He rushed in, to try and see what was happening, he had to break down the door, which was sealed, injuring himself in the process. Fighting through the pain, he entered the hut, to see if Kewang Tian was all right. Annoyingly he was only having a nightmare, seeing this Yun was both annoyed and slightly relieved, yet as he tried to wake him, he only screamed louder, and when he forcibly tried to shake him, Kewang Tian had to seep blood from his ears, and tears of blood leaked from his eyes. After which he had immediately run to get his father and uncle, to tell them.

After he brought them to Kewang Tian, they checked his condition, they had grim faces, and when they Kewang Shui put his hand on Kewang Tian’s forehead, he started to go into a seizure and start to writhe about in a fit, after which they immediately sent for the best doctors in the whole of Lotus City.

When the doctors arrived, they examined him one by one, all having grim looks on there faces, they tried several solutions, which didn’t work but eventually reached a conclusion, he had to endure. All they could do was to make sure that he didn’t choke on his own tongue, one suggested giving him a relaxant, but then it was immediately shot down by the others, as they didn’t know what the cause of it was, and it could have made him worse.

Eventually, they had told the Patriarch and Grand Elder, that they would sit and wait, but that was all they could do. Finally, after a few hours, the screaming had stopped, and so had the seizure. Kewang Tian, who was sweating heavily in the bed, finally woke up, his eyes hazy, and bloodshot, he couldn’t tell where he was, he tried to speak, and one of the doctors came forward “Hush now child. Don’t speak, you’ve been through an ordeal.

He gently patted the boy's shoulder and handed him a tonic. “Drink this, it should help you recover.” The old man smiled and felt the boys pulse. As Kewang Tian drank the tonic, he instantly felt the wariness and corruption to his body, slowly be sapped away. His gaze focused, he couldn’t form words yet, was still a little scared and confused, yet he knew he was safe now. Taking a deep breath, he smiled, at the doctors, and his Uncles. It was as if he was trying to apologize and thank them for their care at the same time.

As he put the drink empty bottle down, he could see that his hand was still shaking seemingly in fear of something. Seeing this his Uncle said to him, “Don’t worry Xiao Tian. You’ve been through something very strange, its okay to be a bit afraid.”

Hearing this Kewang Tian felt at ease, as a dyed red teardrop fell down his face.

    Chapter 7: Two-sides too Trash

Sitting calmly at the edge of his bed, Kewang Tian had a miserable face. This look had been stuck on his face for almost half a year now. Every day his dreams would cause a backlash in him and cause his seizures. During this half a year, nothing much had changed. Most people in the clan still didn’t like him, but how he was a bastard before, he was now trash. Having grown physically weak, he was insulted and even picked on by others in the Clan. Surprisingly, the girl, Kewang Feng, had been a lot gentler towards him, which had puzzled Kewang Tian, but he didn’t put much thought to it, as he was just glad, that she wasn’t being her usual overbearing self.

Kewang Yun had still hung out with him a lot, although the time he was spending cultivating was getting longer and longer, causing Kewang Tian to feel slightly abandoned. Luckily, his uncles had hired one of the four elderly doctors, the oldest yet most active among them – Shen Nong.

Shen Nong was a nice old man, wearing red robes, with fiery ruby’s decorating the clasps. His face was long and solemn, yet he always looked happy, as if he was finally in his element. He had fiery eyes, which felt like you could burn in them, however, there wasn’t any hint of malice in his eyes, instead, there was a look of belonging and care, that made Kewang Tian feel at ease.

Really getting to know this old man and hearing his many stories, was the only solace that helped him in recent times. His body was weakening at a rate, where it would be hard to walk in a few months, and in a year or two, he might as well be a cripple. But when old man Shen Nong, heard this he simply chuckled. “Don’t worry my dear boy, eventually when you come of age, you will grow out of it. Often these are the hardest diseases, ones where there is no cure but must wait it out. To endure, whilst being a hardship, it is also a trial, and if you should pass, it could be possible that you transform into a greater person.” The old man said whilst chuckling.

Hearing this Kewang Tian didn’t know what to say, he felt like the old man’s words, were ones of a fairy tale. “Oh, you don’t believe me?” The old man looked at him with fiery eyes.

Kewang Tian looked at the happy old man in sadness, “It’s not that I don’t want to believe you Senior Shen, but it’s that even if I do recover, and my body becomes even stronger, I won’t be as talented a cultivator as others, there geniuses, whilst I’m just a bastard, with an unknown father. And on it is known my mother only had a level four spirit, which means that I will have at best a level five.” He dropped his head, looking at the floor of the now clean hut.

Seeing the boys pain, the old man sighed. “So, what?” He said in a stern voice, scolding him.

“Even if you had the worst possible martial spirit, you can still reach the apex of cultivation in this realm, let alone this measly city!” Shen Nong snorted.

“Senior Shen, you… you’ve left the city before?” Kewang Tian looked at him, bamboozled from his last statement.

Hearing this the old man just chuckled. “Listen to me Xiao Tian, people can have the worst talent in this world, and yet they can stumble there way to the top, one incompetent and misguided foot at a time, some people are born lucky, they have heaven-defying talent, such as that young Yun, yet talent will only take you so far. I can guarantee, that although the boy has talent, he will become too reliant on that spirit of his, and just embrace its power, which will ultimately become his downfall…”

As soon as these words left the lips of Shen Nong Kewang Tian had a frown indented on his face, Yun was his best friend, yet the old man was saying although the heavens blessed him, fate-bound him not to reach the apex. It scratched a nerve in his heart.

Ignoring his reaction Shen Nong continued, “There’s something even better than a Martial Spirit out there as well, that the people of this city don’t know about, maybe they just lost it to history, or maybe they're just stupid, my bets on the former.”

As these words hit Kewang Tian’s ears his face lit up. “There’s something better than a Martial Spirit!” he shouted, as though the words had rocked his world, he had a big grin on his face, for the first time in a long time.

Seeing Kewang Tian’s excitement Shen Nong’s lips curled. “Not something, four things are better than a Martial Spirit.”

“Please, Senior Shen, please tell me. Old Sage, please I won’t tell anyone else please, who’s going to overhear us.” Seeing the boy’s enthusiasm, he silently nodded.

“Well Xiao Tian, as you so kindly called this old one Sage, I’ll have to oblige. First off, we need to talk about bloodlines. Bloodlines are obtained two ways, inheritance, and extraction. For example, one day, someone might mate with a demonic beast with a demonic beat in human form, and have offspring with it, which will cause those offspring, to have the traits of both the human and bes-…”

Kewang Tian’s jaw had dropped. Who would mate with a demonic beast! He thought to himself. Seeing the look on his face, The Old Sage could only shake his head, the world was complicated, and had too many circumstances to explain it properly.

“There is also the form of extracting blood and transplanting it in someone else, which is incredibly dangerous. If the right techniques aren’t used, and if a high realm expert isn’t assisting, it is almost impossible to do so.”

“Next, we have physiques, there are several martial physiques that involve numerous advantages, so for example, one might be that they have a better affinity with Qi, allowing them to cultivate at a higher rate.”

“Thirdly there are comprehensive abilities, the path of cultivation is 40% comprehension, in my opinion, if its elemental, or natural Laws, they are needed to step onto the greater path of cultivation.”

“Finally, we come to the fourth, and the most likely one you can have, and that’s willpower. Ignore what I previously said, although I believe that its 40% comprehension, I believe that its rather 100% concentrated, undeniable willpower, to overcome all odds and this ability, it one that will knock the others away, and can allow, an angry mob of peasants, to overthrow an empire!”

As the final words, of this speech, hit Kewang Tian’s ears, his face looked like it was going to burst, from the excitement he faced. He may not have great aptitude, what he did have was willpower, and he could harness that.

After seeing the stupidly excited face he was wearing the Old Sage said, “Also, the leading peasant can’t be a total idiot, remember that.” He snorted, as he got up to leave, with an invisible smile on his face.

“I need to leave then, the same time again tomorrow Xiao Tian?” He said as he walked out of Kewang Tian’s hut, with a look of a Grandpa, that had just told one of his great-grandsons a story of his prideful youth!
